Activity Description

GlosArch hosts an annual series of monthly lectures from September to the following April. The monthly lectures can be attended in person in Cheltenham, at St. Andrews United Reformed Church, Garden Room, Montpellier Street, GL50 1SP and will also be broadcast live via Zoom on Mondays and commence at 7.30 p.m. prompt. See below for this season’s schedule. The zoom link will be sent to members and others who have registered over the weekend prior to the talk.

Attendance at the lectures is free. Non-members should email the secretary at: mailbox@glosarch.org.uk to receive the Zoom link. Non-members are invited to make a voluntary donation to GlosArch to support our activities (we suggest £5 per lecture), payable by bank transfer, or by cash if attending in person.

Instructions for speakers

If presenting in person would you please bring your presentation materials on a memory stick or send them by email or a file transfer service (WeTransfer, Dropbox) to the secretary (mailbox@glosarch.org.uk). Please arrange to arrive (or log in for Zoom if presenting virtually) between 19.00 to 19.15 so that we can check that all works to your satisfaction. We will provide laptop, projector, screen and laser pointer for physical meetings, but feel free to bring your own hardware if you wish to.

Next Lecture

The first lecture in the 2024-25 lecture series takes place on Monday 30th September at 7.30pm. The Speaker will be Dr Simon Draper. His topic will be: Lordship in the Landscape: Medieval Manors in the Cotswolds.
Dr Draper is County Editor, Gloucestershire Victoria County History and Assistant Editor of the Oxfordshire Victoria County History (VCH) having previously worked for the VCH in Gloucestershire (2007-10) and for the University of the West of England’s “Family Names of the United Kingdom” research project which resulted in the Oxford Dictionary of Family Names in Britain and Ireland (2016).
